Texas Western Model Railroad Club: Photos and Videos

Now in its second building location, the club’s layout has become a prototypical representation of railroads operating in and through Fort Worth, Texas, with the central focus being Tower 55. Built on two levels, it will offer long runs, state-of-the-art metal benchwork, LED computer-controlled lighting, and both freight and passenger prototypical
operations.

  • TOWER 55 IS THE CENTERPIECE OF OUR LAYOUT. The original building was built by the late Ken Marcoux. Darrell Cowles added interior and exterior lighting, along with interior control panels and other details to give the tower a very finished look. Check out the “Venetian Blinds” made from 1/64 chart tape! Jay Waters and Mike Weiss helped set the scene with static grass, dirt, gravel, and other landscaping details. In fact, the parking lot for the tower is made from mortar removed from bricks taken from the actual Tower 55!
  • A recent addition to the Tower 55 scene includes a Civil Defense siren protecting the Tower 55 area. Please Note: Darrell Cowles 3D printed and modified this siren to match those he saw in Fort Worth around the 50-60’s!
  • Darrell also added a T&P Signal Dept. crew, which is out working on the signal box at Tower 55.

Texas Western Layout 1.0–Original Layout

After 17 years of building a beautiful layout, and following the untimely passing of our benefactor, Joe Williams, Joe P. Williams Compressor Service discontinued business.  Joe’s family was forced to place the property for sale, necessitating the dismantling of the club’s treasured layout.

Take a tour of the club’s original layout that used to be located at 6807 Anglin Drive, Forest Hill Texas 76140. The layout tour cameras 1-12 correspond to the camera icons in the Version 1 Graphic. Enjoy!
